About Me
I am a Catholic father, teacher, writer, speaker, and Benedictine oblate dedicated to helping others to experience and embrace the vibrant tradition of Catholic life. I work in formation for men as director of content for Exodus 90 and teach for the Lay Division of St. John Vianney Seminary. I earned my BA and MA in Catholic Studies at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota and my PhD in Systematic Theology from Ave Maria University.
I teach, write, and speak on the intersection of faith and life, including the fundamentals of faith, art, literature, history, philosophy, and the principles of education. I promote the renewal of Catholic education by helping to found schools and programs, sitting on educational boards, and consulting. I work with my wife Anne and six kids to build Catholic culture in our home and to share it with other families.
Why Building Catholic Culture?
Pope St. John Paul II related the necessary connection between faith and culture: “The synthesis between culture and faith is not only a demand of culture, but also of faith. . . . A faith that does not become culture is not fully accepted, not entirely thought out, not faithfully lived.” We cannot allow our faith to become overshadowed and thwarted by a secular culture. Rather, faith must form the center of our life and become a complete culture, shaping our relationships, work, and leisure.
I believe that the Lord has called me to help others build Catholic culture. This may sound like a lofty goal, but in reality it simply entails letting our faith guide all that we do. To do this, we need to strengthen family life, education, and community so that they help Christians to live the faith courageously in a hostile environment. In this task of renewal, we have a compelling legacy of culture to draw upon for inspiration and strength. This site aims to provide resources from the tradition to guide our work of building a culture centered on faith.
